Venture Wales is a specialist business support organisation dedicated to assisting start-up and growth businesses realise their full potential. It was established in 1983 and currently has its headquarters in Abercynon, Rhondda Cynon Taf, with nine fully-staffed offices in Wales.

Venture Wales offers a wide range of business support services to SMEs, including Opportunity Wales services and ICT support services. It is one of the main deliverers of the WDA New Business Starts programme, which provides support services to a range of clients including sole traders, lifestyle businesses, growth and high growth ventures. This programme offers a unique combination of mentoring, specialist consultancy and skills transfer in a mix that matches the needs of each business. The services provide an effective support mechanism to help start and grow businesses. Venture Wales has helped over 1000 companies in the last 12 months.

Amongst its many activities, Venture Wales is an Accredited Training Centre for the Institute of Management to deliver Management Development Training, and was recently awarded the status of Approved Centre of Excellence by the Small Firms’ Enterprise Development Initiative (SFEDI) for the quality of that training – the only organisation in the Principality to win the honour and one of only three in Britain.

Venture Wales manages the ICT Support Centres in Pontypool and Merthyr Tydfil; these form part of the ICT Support Centre Network established by the WDA and sponsored by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Venture Wales’ recently expanded Consultancy Division provides additional specialist services, drawn from the expertise of its consultants, which predominately cover strategy, marketing and finance for clients in Wales, the UK and some international markets.

Venture Wales is probably unique in that its primary objective is to secure prosperity and employment in Wales, rather than to make a financial return on the services provided. In this regard, Venture Wales, a company limited by guarantee, is a profit making but non-profit taking company whose Memorandum and Articles of Association established it for the purpose of creating employment and generating wealth within Wales.

Over the past year Venture Wales has:

• created over 1900 jobs
• safeguarded 1200 jobs
• raised over £26m in funding for clients
• attracted over 2,000 individuals to training seminars and workshops

Venture Wales has detailed knowledge of funding issues and best practice in business support, expertise in the development, administration and management of ERDF supported funds, and an excellent understanding of the Welsh economy, together with a general network of contacts with leading companies in the main industrial sectors of Wales and other parts of the UK. The company actively networks and has strategic alliances with other leading consultancy organisations in the UK and overseas.
