eMarketplaces
An Introduction to eMarketplaces

An eMarketplace is an on-line exchange in which organisations and their communities come together to conduct commerce, access content, and collaborate to improve business performance. Other names for an eMarketplace include:
B2B (Business-to-Business) exchanges, and on-line trading hubs.

eMarketplaces are service applications, which connect buyers and sellers to each other over the Internet. A successful eMarketplace will form a mass of buyers and sellers, creating new channels for suppliers to sell goods and services, and streamline the procurement process for buyers. eMarketplaces usually consist of software installed on a customer's premises, or in a hosted environment.

In simple terms an eMarketplace is just a web site at which multiple suppliers and multiple buyers can undertake business transactions via the Internet.
